Widowed Mothers of Vrindavan Handcraft 1,100 Rakhis for Prime Minister

Hundreds of widowed mothers of Vrindavan came together for a special Raksha Bandhan celebration organised by Sulabh International at the historic Gopinath Temple, celebrating the festival with joy, dignity and a sense of belonging.

As part of the celebrations, the mothers handcrafted more than 1,100 special rakhis for Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, whom they regard as their brother. Featuring colourful photographs of the Prime Minister, the rakhis were prepared over several days and packed along with sweets to be presented to him on Raksha Bandhan. A group of five mothers is expected to travel to Delhi to personally present the rakhis and sweets.

Mrs. Nitya Pathak, Executive Convenor, Sulabh International, joined the mothers in the celebrations and extended her Raksha Bandhan greetings to them. Speaking on the occasion, she reaffirmed Sulabh’s commitment to carrying forward the legacy of Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, who worked to restore dignity, inclusion and happiness in the lives of widowed women in Vrindavan.

The celebration was filled with festive spirit as the mothers decorated rakhis, sang Krishna bhajans and celebrated together, reflecting Dr. Pathak’s vision of a society where every individual can live with dignity, affection and a sense of belonging.
