Plantation Drive to Promote Environmental and Community Well-being in Ghanshyampur, Darbhanga

Darbhanga, Bihar — In its continued commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, the Sulabh International School of Action Sociology and Sociology of Sanitation (SISASSS), in collaboration with local farmers, organized a plantation drive in Ghanshyampur village, Darbhanga.

The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Indu Shekhar Singh, Principal Scientist and In-charge at ICAR–National Research Centre for Makhana, Darbhanga, whose presence added great value to the initiative. He lauded SISASSS’s efforts in integrating ecological sustainability with community development, and also shared practical guidance with local farmers on effective Makhana cultivation to improve productivity.

Recognizing that plants are essential for maintaining ecological balance—through air purification, erosion control, groundwater conservation, and climate regulation—the plantation drive focused on fruit-bearing trees such as Guava, Amla, Mango, Chikoo, Curry Leaf, and Lemon. These were strategically planted along both sides of the village to serve dual purposes: enhancing the green cover and providing nutritious, accessible fruits to the local population.

This initiative is part of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation’s broader mission, which extends beyond sanitation and menstrual hygiene to encompass education, food sovereignty, and environmental stewardship.
