Pioneering Progress in Period Dignity in Sikkim Schools with Support from SFA Group France

Sulabh Sanitation Club has launched Project SFA 3.0: “Period Dignity in Schools – Sustainable Toilets for Menstrual Use” across three schools in Sikkim, with activities continuing until November 2025.

This project is dedicated to expanding access to menstrual hygiene facilities, ensuring that every student has the resources, infrastructure, and knowledge to manage menstruation with dignity. By creating a supportive school environment, the project aims to remove menstruation-related barriers to education, helping students stay confident, informed, and empowered.

As part of the initiative, comprehensive menstrual health education sessions are being conducted for teachers, school staff, and peer educators, focusing on age-appropriate, culturally sensitive content. These sessions go beyond just information — they emphasise practical skills like selecting the right menstrual products, proper usage, regular changing, and safe disposal. Special attention is being given to improving sanitation facilities for girls in schools.

To further promote personal hygiene and well-being, hygiene kits are being distributed to both boys and girls. These kits include essentials like soap, towels, nail cutters, earbuds, combs, shampoo sachets, hand sanitizers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and menstrual hygiene products for girls. Whether used in school programs or humanitarian settings, these kits play a vital role in supporting students’ health and dignity.
