A Padyatra for Menstrual Hygiene and Dignity

In a strong display of unity and purpose, the streets of Kapilvastu witnessed a powerful padyatra on 8th June 2025, as school students, teachers, and local women marched together to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and dignity.

Organized by the Sulabh Sanitation Club and Kalika NGO, with the generous support of the B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, the rally addressed the deep-rooted stigma surrounding menstruation in Nepal. Despite progress, many girls and women across the country still face social taboos, lack of access to sanitary products, and limited information, leading to school absenteeism and social exclusion.

The rally was marked by bold participation—participants held placards, raised slogans, and shared personal stories to challenge silence and shame around periods. Their collective voice emphasized that menstruation should be discussed openly, understood correctly, and supported with dignity and care.

This initiative was not just a march, but a movement—one that called for education, respect, and systemic change. It marked a significant step towards a future where menstruation is no longer hidden in silence but acknowledged as a natural and manageable part of life.
